What’s New (May 2026 Update)

Paperclip crossed 66K stars — up from 57K in 27 days (+16%). Calendar-versioned releases (v2026.512.0, May 12; v2026.513.0, May 13) introduced a local plugin development workflow with CLI-first authoring and LLM Wiki plugin packages, secrets provider vaults with AWS Secrets Manager remote import, and a Cursor cloud adapter for Cursor’s hosted-agent platform.

Ruflo surged to 48.2K stars — up from 32.6K (+48% in 27 days). v3.6.0 (April 29) and v3.6.12 (May 1, 2026) introduced agent federation — multiple Ruflo instances on different machines communicate without data exposure — and a rewritten worker-to-worker communication protocol with lower latency and adaptive back-pressure.

mcp-agent development has slowed. The LastMile AI framework (8.1K stars) shows minimal commits since January 25, 2026; two active feature branches (feature/temporal_prime, feature/app_server) suggest a major pending rewrite. No new release since our last review.

Positions itself as “a complete AI agent operating system.” The “MIT+OpenAI/Anthropic Rider” license is worth reading carefully before enterprise adoption.
