Why Anthropic Did This
The underlying dynamic is what the Lago/Substack analysis called “finger-based pricing” — billing based on the mode of delivery rather than actual compute consumed. 2. Opt in to claim your credit. A one-time opt-in is required — you must activate the monthly credit through your Claude account. It refreshes automatically after that. Do this before June 15 or you start without any credit in the programmatic pool.
