The NVIDIA DGX Spark was already a significant machine when it launched: 128 GB of unified LPDDR5x memory shared between CPU and GPU on a Grace Blackwell GB10 SoC, up to 1 PFLOP FP4 throughput, in a box the size of a Mac mini. But the June 1, 2026 software update changed its practical ceiling.
Three things shipped in that update that matter to builders:
- Multi-node clustering, now automated through a Cluster Assistant in the NVIDIA Sync app
- NVFP4 + Multi-Token Prediction delivering a 2.6x throughput improvement on Qwen3.6-35B
- Streamlined NemoClaw install, making the local agent blueprint significantly easier to deploy

The hardware baseline
Before diving into the update, here are the specs that matter:
- SoC: NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GB10 (20-core Arm CPU + Blackwell GPU on one package)
- Memory: 128 GB LPDDR5x unified (CPU and GPU share this pool)
- Bandwidth: 273 GB/s
- Compute: up to 1 PFLOP FP4 / 1,000 TOPS inference
- Storage: 1 TB or 4 TB NVMe SSD
- Networking: ConnectX-7 SmartNIC (two QSFP ports), 10 GbE, Wi-Fi 7
- Price: ~$3,999 at launch (~$4,699 as of early 2026)
Single-node capacity tops out at roughly 200B dense parameters, with the practical sweet spot being 100–130B MoE models with ~10–15B active parameters (e.g., Nemotron-3-Super-120B-A12B-NVFP4, Qwen3.6-35B). If you need to run larger models locally without cloud egress, that ceiling has been a constraint.
The June 2026 update starts removing it.
What changed: multi-node clustering
How clustering works
Each DGX Spark has two QSFP ports on the rear, connected to a ConnectX-7 SmartNIC. These carry 400 GbE (200 Gbps per port) using standard QSFP112 DAC cables — not Thunderbolt, not NVLink between nodes, not PCIe between units. Think high-speed Ethernet with RDMA semantics.
For two nodes: direct cable, no switch needed. For three nodes: ring topology (three cables, both QSFP ports per node) supported by NCCL 2.30u1, which shipped with this update. For four nodes: a managed switch with 200 Gbps-class QSFP ports.

That 4-node configuration (~$16,000–19,000 in hardware, plus cables and optionally a switch) puts 512 GB of high-bandwidth unified memory in a local cluster — enough to run the kinds of models that until recently were cloud-only.
Cluster Assistant automates the hard part
The new Cluster Assistant in the NVIDIA Sync desktop app handles:
- System readiness checks (OTA version, sudo access)
- CX-7 topology detection (probe on each node)
- IP planning and deconfliction
- Netplan configuration
- Inter-node SSH key exchange
- Bandwidth and latency validation via
ib_write_bwandib_write_lat
Previously, setting this up required manual networking configuration. The Cluster Assistant handles the network and SSH layer. It does not configure workload orchestration — that’s still on you — but it removes the primary friction of getting nodes talking to each other.

What changed: 2.6x inference throughput on Qwen3.6-35B
NVFP4 + Multi-Token Prediction
The June update ships NVFP4 quantized checkpoints for Qwen3.6-35B, co-developed with the vLLM team, combined with Multi-Token Prediction (MTP) optimizations. The headline result: 2.6x throughput improvement on that model versus the prior NVFP4 baseline.
For reference, here are the published vLLM benchmarks on a single DGX Spark running Nemotron-3-Super-120B-A12B-NVFP4 (a different, larger model — but it shows what the hardware delivers):

22–24 tokens/sec decode on a 120B MoE model with ~12B active parameters. That’s not blazing — this is a 1.2 kg desktop device, not an H100 — but it’s enough for real workloads: code review, document analysis, iterative drafts, evaluation pipelines that don’t need sub-100ms latency.

For multi-node tensor parallelism, add --tensor-parallel-size 2 (or 4). The container uses CUDA 13 nightly (cu130-nightly) and targets sm_121 (consumer Blackwell compute capability).
The vLLM server exposes OpenAI-compatible /v1 endpoints with streaming support and a Prometheus /metrics endpoint.
What changed: NemoClaw streamlined install
What NemoClaw is
NemoClaw is NVIDIA’s open-source local agent blueprint. It bundles three things:
- Open models — primarily NVIDIA Nemotron models; defaults to Qwen3.6-35B on DGX Spark via Ollama
- Agent harness — choice of OpenClaw (autonomous governed agents, default) or Hermes Agent (Nous Research’s self-improving agent with skills-and-memory loop)
- OpenShell runtime — a sandboxed execution environment with access controls, network policy, capability drops, process limits, and operator approval flow for network access
Four pre-built example agents are included: Daily Personal News Digest, Software Development Agent, Deck and Document Reviewer, and Calendar Negotiator.
The June 2026 update streamlines the install path that previously required manual setup steps.

NemoClaw is TypeScript (78%), Shell (17%), and built on NVIDIA NeMo libraries and NVIDIA Agent Toolkit. It’s alpha — treat it accordingly in production contexts.
The new setup flow also surfaces NemoClaw as a default option during DGX Spark initial setup (OOBE), replacing the previous buried-in-docs approach.
Builder decision framework
When DGX Spark makes sense
DGX Spark is a specialized purchase. It makes sense when three conditions hold:
- Data sovereignty is a hard requirement — you cannot send prompts to external APIs due to compliance, IP sensitivity, or contractual restrictions
- You need model sizes above what consumer hardware handles — Ollama on an M3 Max runs fine up to ~70B; DGX Spark pushes that to ~200B single-node or ~400B with two units
- You have sustained inference load that would make cloud economics worse — DGX Spark at ~$4,700 amortized over three years costs roughly $130/month in capital before electricity; that breaks even against API costs somewhere in the tens of millions of tokens per month at mid-tier pricing
It does not make sense as a developer laptop or for low-volume experimentation. Cloud APIs remain cheaper for most teams doing fewer than 100M tokens/month.
Single node vs. stacked
For most builders who buy DGX Spark, a single 128 GB unit covers the use case. The 35B–120B model range hits the sweet spot between quality and throughput for most agent workloads.
Stack to two nodes if you need to evaluate or serve models in the 200–400B range — large reasoning models, dense flagship-tier models — without cloud egress. The 256 GB cluster is the first point where you can run full-parameter versions of currently frontier-scale models locally.
Stack to four nodes if you’re running a local research lab or building products where you want to test and fine-tune models that size without any external API dependency.
NemoClaw vs. DIY agent harness
If you’re prototyping local agents and don’t already have a harness, NemoClaw’s OpenShell sandbox is worth evaluating. The operator approval flow for network access and the process-level capability controls are things that teams often skip during prototyping and then struggle to retrofit. Starting with them baked in is a reasonable trade even if you later replace the agent logic.
Hermes (the Nous Research option) is more experimental — the self-improving loop with skills and memory is interesting research but needs careful handling in any deployment that touches real data or systems.
What this update doesn’t change
Worth being explicit about the limitations:
- Decode throughput is still low for latency-critical apps — 22–24 tokens/sec means a 500-token response takes ~20 seconds. This is fine for async pipelines, background agents, and evaluation runs; it’s not suitable for real-time conversational interfaces where users are waiting.
- Inter-node bandwidth is Ethernet, not NVLink — the 200 Gbps QSFP links are fast for CPU-level distributed inference but don’t give you the memory fabric bandwidth you’d get from NVLink-connected server-class GPU modules. Multi-node clustering on DGX Spark is model-partitioning (tensor parallel), not NVLink memory sharing.
- NemoClaw is alpha — the install is now cleaner, but this is not production-grade orchestration infrastructure yet.
- Model availability — not all models have NVFP4 checkpoints yet. The Qwen3.6-35B and Nemotron-3-Super-120B-A12B are the primary showcased options. Expect the catalog to grow but check NGC availability before committing to a specific model.
Summary
The June 2026 DGX Spark software update does three things that materially expand what’s buildable on the hardware:
- Cluster Assistant removes the manual networking barrier to 2–4 node stacking, unlocking 256–512 GB unified memory configurations that can run 400B+ models locally
