We’ve reviewed 4 categories of Education & Learning MCP servers, evaluating over 120 individual servers across learning management systems, flashcard apps, academic research databases, coding education, assessment platforms, translation, libraries, archives, museums, and STEM computation tools. Each review covers architecture patterns, star counts, tool inventories, known issues, and honest ratings.
Education is where MCP meets institutional infrastructure. Canvas LMS dominates with more MCP implementations than any other education platform — at least six independent servers, led by vishalsachdev/canvas-mcp (90+ tools with FERPA-compliant data anonymization) and DMontgomery40/mcp-canvas-lms (89 stars, 54 tools). Academic research tools are the strongest subcategory — arXiv MCP (2,400 stars) and paper-search-mcp (791 stars, 7 platforms) provide deep scholarly access. Anki leads spaced repetition with 179 stars and 27 tools. The biggest signal: Instructure (Canvas vendor) announced IgniteAgent with MCP as its integration standard — the first major LMS vendor to officially adopt the protocol.
LMS Platforms & EdTech Tools
The education ecosystem is fragmented but surprisingly deep. Canvas LMS has the most MCP server competition of any single EdTech platform, with two leading servers offering 54 and 90+ tools respectively. Moodle has read/write support with 31 stars. Google Classroom and D2L Brightspace have basic coverage. Enterprise learning got a signal when Udemy launched an official MCP server. EduBase brings proper assessment infrastructure with LaTeX support, SCORM modules, and GDPR compliance.

Notable Gaps
The education MCP ecosystem has significant holes despite its depth in Canvas and research tools:
- No Blackboard MCP servers — one of the three dominant LMS platforms has zero implementations
- No Khan Academy, Coursera, edX, or Duolingo — major MOOC and language learning platforms are absent
- No PowerSchool or student information systems (Banner, Infinite Campus)
- No plagiarism detection (Turnitin, Grammarly)
- No library catalog systems (OCLC, Ex Libris)
- No adaptive learning engines or proctoring platforms
