Content delivery networks are the invisible backbone of the modern web — caching, routing, edge compute, security, and performance optimization. CDN & edge computing MCP servers let AI agents manage these systems directly: purging caches, deploying edge workers, analyzing traffic patterns, configuring domains, and monitoring performance metrics.

The headline finding: CDN MCP coverage is vendor-driven and uneven. Cloudflare dominates with multiple official servers totaling 4,200+ stars and a novel Code Mode architecture that maps 2,500 API endpoints into ~1,000 tokens. Fastly’s v2.1.0 is now a substantially more capable server with a differentiated security feature: sensitive credential values are encrypted before being returned to the LLM. Akamai now has official MCP servers through the akamai-developers org, and Bunny CDN has its first community MCP. The Landscape

Cloudflare has the most extensive CDN MCP ecosystem by a wide margin. Three distinct approaches, each serving different use cases.

cloudflare/mcp-server-cloudflare (~3,800 stars, Apache-2.0) is the original and most popular option — now 15 separate MCP servers (down from 16: the AutoRAG server was deprecated in April 2026 in favor of the unified mcp.cloudflare.com endpoint). Covers Workers bindings, observability, Radar analytics, containers, browser rendering, logging, AI Gateway, audit logs, DNS analytics, digital experience monitoring, CASB security, and GraphQL APIs. The April 30 batch release (workers-bindings@0.4.7) updated all servers to shared @repo/mcp-common@0.20.5, including an observability schema fix adding workflow to the eventType enum.

cloudflare/mcp (466 stars, up +20% since last review, Apache-2.0) is the newer, architecturally interesting option. Originally Code Mode only (2 tools: search and execute), a March 20 update added ?codemode=false — a query parameter that registers ~2,500 individual tools instead, each making direct API calls. This gives teams a choice: Code Mode for token efficiency (~1,000 tokens for 2,500 endpoints) or individual-tool mode for simpler agent workflows. May 2026 updates continue hardening OAuth: API token identity is now cached via KV to reduce redundant API calls, the OAuth refresh token retry storm bug (cascading 401 → infinite refresh loop) is fixed, and registrar and logs OAuth scopes were added. Supports OAuth authentication (recommended) or API tokens, with automatic account ID detection.

cloudflare/workers-mcp acts as a proxy between local MCP clients and Cloudflare Workers, letting you expose Worker functions directly to AI agents. Useful for custom edge logic rather than platform management.

CDN-specific capabilities across the ecosystem: Cache purging, DNS management, firewall rules, load balancer configuration, R2 storage, KV store operations, Pages deployment, Stream video, Images optimization, and Workers deployment. The Radar server provides global internet traffic insights useful for CDN optimization decisions.

Fastly

Fastly’s official MCP server underwent a major architectural shift with v2.1.0 (released May 11, 2026). What was a CLI-wrapping server with 8 fixed tools is now a search/inspect/execute pattern similar to Cloudflare’s Code Mode — the agent discovers available CLI commands, inspects their details, and executes them. This dramatically increases capability coverage without token bloat.

The most differentiated security feature in the CDN MCP space: fastly/mcp v2.0.0 introduced secret encryption — sensitive credential values in API responses are replaced with encrypted stand-ins before being returned to the LLM. This goes beyond the existing CLI-wrapping approach (which already kept API keys out of the LLM’s reach) to also protect credential data surfaced in command output. No other CDN MCP server does this.

Other v2.x additions:

  • HTTP transport mode: Supports running over HTTP (not just stdio), enabling multi-client and remote deployment behind reverse proxies
  • Expanded client support: Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Opencode, Qwen Code, Cline, Swival
  • Still requires the Fastly CLI (authenticated separately) — the key security model remains: your API keys never reach the LLM directly

CDN capabilities: Service creation and management, domain configuration, backend setup, cache purging (URL and surrogate key), TLS certificate management, ACL configuration, version management, and real-time performance analytics including traffic patterns and cache hit ratios.

Install: pre-built binaries for macOS/Linux/Windows, go install, or build from source. Requires Go 1.23+ and Fastly CLI authenticated.

Akamai

Akamai now has official MCP servers through the akamai-developers organization — a significant change from the previous review when no official option existed.

akamai-developers/akamai-functions-mcp-server (Go, v0.1.5, April 10, 2026) manages Akamai Functions — Akamai’s edge serverless offering. Covers listing accounts, deploying apps, retrieving logs and status, and real-time monitoring. Installable via Homebrew. Early stage (0 stars on GitHub), but official and actively developed.

akamai-developers/serverless-decision-log-mcp-server (Rust/WASM, 2 stars, updated late April 2026) takes an unusual approach: it’s an MCP server that itself runs on Akamai Functions as a serverless workload, built on wasmcp and Spin. Reads the Akamai Functions decision log — useful for monitoring edge routing decisions. More of a niche tool than a general Akamai management MCP.

ALECS (A LaunchGrid for Edge & Cloud Services) remains the broadest community option with Property Management, DNS Operations (24 tools), and Certificate Management (22 tools) — but has seen no commits since June 2025. The project appears stalled, which is worth noting given the “stability over sprawl” plan to slowly re-add the tools removed in v1.6. Stars have barely moved (1 → 2). With official Akamai options now available, ALECS’s relevance as a primary recommendation has diminished.

deepakjd2004/akamai-mcp-server is a minimal Python proof-of-concept: 4 capabilities (contracts, groups, property listing, filtering).

Gcore

Gcore’s official MCP server provides unified access across their entire platform — CDN, GPU Cloud, AI Inference, Video Streaming, WAAP, and cloud resources. Apache-2.0 licensed. 14 predefined toolsets selectable via the GCORE_TOOLS environment variable. No commits since March 2026 (last update: Claude Code setup instructions). Maintenance mode. 10 → 12 stars (+2). The CDN capabilities remain part of a broader platform management story rather than CDN-focused.

Bunny CDN

Bunny CDN’s MCP gap is now partially closed. Previously identified as a zero-coverage provider, Bunny now has a community MCP via bytekcorp/bunny-tools (updated May 4, 2026). It’s a CLI tool with a built-in MCP server — 15 tools covering deploy, purge, storage CRUD, pull zone management, DNS, and bunny.run as an escape-hatch for arbitrary CLI commands. 185 unit tests with nightly live API testing suggests this is more than a quick prototype. v0.1 is released; v0.2 plans GitHub Actions wrapper. Unofficial but appears well-engineered.

0 stars at time of writing — very new and undiscovered. Watch this space.

Platform Deployment (Vercel, Netlify)

Vercel and Netlify MCP servers focus on deployment platform management rather than CDN configuration specifically. We’ve covered Vercel MCP separately. Netlify’s official MCP (42 stars, last commit March 2025 — effectively dormant) handles project creation, deployment, access control, environment variables, and form management. The community DynamicEndpoints server wraps the full Netlify CLI (43 tools) including blob storage, dev server, recipes, and analytics.

These are worth mentioning because both platforms include built-in CDN/edge capabilities, but the MCP servers don’t expose CDN-specific controls (cache headers, edge rules, purging) as discrete tools.

AWS CloudFront

No dedicated CloudFront MCP server exists. The AWS MCP ecosystem (awslabs/mcp, 9,100 stars, 30+ servers) covers EKS, ECS, Lambda, CloudFormation, and more — but CloudFront is conspicuously absent. Community search surfaces only 0-star auto-generated repos. The AWS Serverless MCP Server can optionally invalidate CloudFront caches when uploading frontend assets to S3, but that’s a side feature, not CDN management.

This remains a notable gap. CloudFront is one of the most widely-used CDNs, and the lack of MCP tooling means teams using CloudFront can’t give AI agents the same CDN management capabilities available for Cloudflare or Fastly.

What Actually Works

Cache management is the most consistently supported operation. Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai (via both ALECS and the new official edge serverless server), and now Bunny CDN (via bytekcorp/bunny-tools) all support cache purging — by URL, tag/surrogate key, or full purge. This is the highest-value CDN automation use case: agents can detect stale content issues and trigger targeted purges.

Configuration management varies widely. Cloudflare’s dual-mode approach — Code Mode (2 tools, 2,500 endpoints) or individual-tool mode (~2,500 discrete tools) — is the most comprehensive and flexible. Fastly’s v2.1.0 search/inspect/execute pattern now rivals this elegance, with the added benefit of secret encryption on all credential-containing responses. Akamai’s official server covers edge serverless deployment rather than full CDN configuration. You’re still locked into one vendor’s MCP server per CDN — there’s no cross-CDN abstraction layer.

Performance analytics is supported by Cloudflare (Radar, DNS analytics, digital experience monitoring), Fastly (traffic patterns, cache hit ratios), and Akamai (via ALECS analytics tools). These are genuinely useful for AI-assisted optimization — an agent can identify low cache hit ratios and suggest configuration changes.

Edge compute deployment is primarily a Cloudflare story through Workers MCP. Fastly supports Compute service deployment through its CLI wrapper. Akamai now has dedicated MCP tooling for Akamai Functions via the official akamai-functions-mcp-server.

What Doesn’t Work

No cross-CDN management. If you use multiple CDNs (common for enterprise), you need separate MCP servers for each. No one has built a unified CDN MCP interface.

CloudFront gap persists. AWS’s most popular CDN still has no meaningful MCP tooling despite awslabs/mcp growing to 9,100 stars. Given AWS’s extensive MCP investment elsewhere, this remains a surprising omission. KeyCDN, StackPath, and Azure CDN remain at zero coverage.

Security trade-offs. CDN configuration is security-critical — a misconfigured origin, exposed admin endpoint, or wrong cache rule can cause data leaks. Fastly’s v2.1.0 is now the gold standard: API keys never reach the LLM (CLI wrapping) and credential values in responses are encrypted before reaching the LLM context. Cloudflare’s OAuth consent UI with resource/action matrix gives fine-grained control over agent scopes. ALECS uses EdgeGrid authentication through environment variables — be thoughtful about what CDN operations you expose to AI agents.

Smaller CDN providers mostly invisible. Bunny CDN now has a community option; KeyCDN, StackPath, Azure CDN do not. If you use these providers, you’re writing custom integrations.

The Bottom Line

The CDN MCP landscape is a two-tier story:

Tier 1 — Production-ready: Cloudflare (Code Mode or the 15-server suite) and Fastly (official, v2.1.0 now substantially more capable with secret encryption and search/inspect/execute architecture). Both are officially maintained, actively developed, and suitable for production CDN management through AI agents.

Tier 2 — Maturing: Official Akamai edge serverless MCP (akamai-developers/akamai-functions-mcp-server, v0.1.5) is new and promising but early-stage. Gcore’s official server is quiet (12 stars, no recent commits). bytekcorp/bunny-tools fills the Bunny CDN gap but is very new. Everything else is experimental or stalled.

Who should use what:

  • Cloudflare users: Start with cloudflare/mcp — choose Code Mode for token efficiency or ?codemode=false for ~2,500 individual tools. Fall back to mcp-server-cloudflare if you need specific server integrations (Radar, AI Gateway, etc.)
  • Fastly users: fastly/mcp v2.1.0 is excellent — secret encryption is a unique security feature, and the new search/inspect/execute architecture gives full CLI coverage without tool bloat
  • Akamai users: The new akamai-developers/akamai-functions-mcp-server is the best starting point for edge serverless. For broader CDN configuration, ALECS still exists but has been stalled since June 2025
  • Bunny CDN users: bytekcorp/bunny-tools is early but promising — 15 tools, well-tested, actively developed
  • AWS CloudFront users: Wait. Or use the AWS Serverless MCP Server for basic cache invalidation alongside S3 deployments
  • Multi-CDN users: No good solution yet. You’ll need to configure separate MCP servers per provider

Rating: 3.5/5 — Strong vendor-specific options from Cloudflare and Fastly (notably improved), and the ecosystem is slowly widening (official Akamai, first Bunny CDN option). But the fundamental fragmentation remains — no cross-CDN tooling, CloudFront still dark, and most smaller providers absent.
